Quinta das Lagrimas was by far my best hotel experience in Portugal. The setting is beautiful and the palace is perfectly restored to its past grandeur. The rooms are all different and well decorated and the service is just beyond words!! The restaurant has a two Michelin star chef as consultant so you can imagine how the food is like. Lovely botanical garden and golf academy. A must!

Lovely stay - beautifully furnished period rooms with loads of character. Lovely grounds too, with a sense of seclusion despite being about 15 minutes walk from Coimbra (across the bridge). Staff friendly, welcoming and very helpful. Attractive and inviting outdoor pool. Only drawbacks - the brash new extension (restaurant plus fitness centre and indoor pool) clashes loudly with the grandeur of the original building and the buffet breakfast was disappointing.

I just returned from this hotel. They just opened a spa that is out of this world. I would describe it as trendy, chic, minimalist, zen, relaxing.... the place is totally black (even the pool!!!!) except for the green of the garden that strolls in through the large windows.
Fabulous treatments from a couple of French spa ranges add to their offer and make the spa an absolute gem. Worth the detour!!!!

This Relais & Chateaux hotel is a gem . An old patrician villa with antique charming sitting-rooms ,lounges and a fantastic antique library with a free internet connession . The rooms are elegant and the spa is wonderful although it seemed to us too modern compared to the old charme of the main building (ask for a room in the old building !!!!) .Great swimming area in the garden . The only complain was the very poor breakfast which is a feature of portuguese hotels . Do not forget to try the restaurant - it is not a dinner it turns into a fantastic food experience . Can't wait to come back .
