perfect but
the hotel is a perfect place for families, rooms are clean enough and and from the hotel you can easily reach all the most important and famous place in town, but the personnel is very rude and impolite, and breakfast is very poor.

A more than decent hotel in the heart of London:)
Don't be discouraged by the not-so-great-looking outer facade and the shabby corridors. The Royal National is a great place to stay (though it is by no means a 5-star hotel). It is located only 2 minutes from the tube station which gives you quick access to all parts of London, as well as to the Heathrow Airport. The hotel is also within walking distance to Oxford Street and Covent Garden (25-30min).The room was extremely spacious, warm and clean. Check-in was fast and easy. If you need quiet, simply choose a room on a higher floor (they'll probably ask about your preference when you check in).
I would definitely stay there again (even if I'm not traveling on a budget:))

Budget hotel with excellent location
Me and my friend stayed at this hotel during our UK trip. Well, i cannot say that Royal National Hotel was the best place ever but for the price we paid it was great value. The hotel has an outstanding location with great transportation links. It is within walking distance to London's main highlights such as British Museum, Covent Garden and Oxford Street. My friend and i stayed in a twin room which was clean and comfortable. Food at the hotel was okay. We has a good and safe stay Royal National Hotel and i recommend it to budget travellers.

Good value for basic but conveniently located hotel
I stayed in Royal National Hotel just for 2 nights. I found it to be very basic - clean and comfortable with anything at hand due to location. The basic London's sightseeing spots are near by or easily accessible, variety of bar and restaurants and other entertainment places are around. However, some can be bothered by the noise. The hotel staff were satisfyingly polite and not more. I found Royal National Hotel to be a good value hotel in a convenient location for sightseeing.

Basic 3 star hotel with perfect location
Royal National Hotel is definitely an ideal base for exploring London. The hotel is very conveniently located for public transport and is a short walk from Oxford St. and Covent Garden.
The room was basically clean and my single room was spacious enough. The hotel offers chinese restaurant, coffee shop, traditional pub, gift shops, internet kiosks and a bureau de change. Overall, Royal National Hotel offers an excellent value for basic accommodation and a perfect location.

Superb location
As part of my Europe trip I stayed at Royal National Hotel for 2 days. The location couldn't not been better - right next to Russell Square tube station and a 24hr Tesco. Variety of bars and restaurants are very close by. The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast room was light and airy, plenty of choice offered. The staff were extremely polite and helpful. I would definitely come back to Royal National Hotel on my next trip to London.

Must admit, after reading reviews from others prior to my trip Mar 10-14, 2004, I did not expect much. Glad to say, expectations met and exceeded. No, not top of the line; No, not classy; Yes, there are better, but for the money, this was a good deal. Downside was the odor of smoke once you entered the lobby, but the room was one of the remodeled rooms (small), clean and smoke-free! Staff was friendly and courteous at front desk even though it was always busy. The "Continental" breakfast was nothing to write home about but you could get a cup of coffee, tea and juice to get you started. How bad can toast be??? Offerings were limited and not posh but they were enough to get you started as you went out and began your days. I'd stay there again. If all you are looking for in a hotel is a clean, comfortable place to lay your head at night, then the Royal National Hotel, with it's great location to the sites, is the place to go. If you want to be pampered, go elsewhere.

Have been there for 3 nights a couple of years ago. London hotels are among the most expensive in the world and this is probably one of the cheapest hotels in London, surely is the cheapest offering in-room bathroom, so do not expect a first class 5 star luxury accomodation.
Furnitures are old and "salvation army" style, walls dirty and stained, it's quite noisy and breakfast must be taken in the room. Nevertheless rooms and linen are clean, nothing to except. In-room bathroom is a great plus for me so I would probably return there if I have the same budget but definitely choose another hotel if I have some more pound in my pocket.

After reading some of the other reviews, I wasn't expecting to be all that satisfied with the Royal National. But I was pleasantly surprised.
The rooms were kept spotlessly clean, the housekeepers were quite willing to make up two twin beds as a double, the sheets were always fresh and clean, there were plenty of towels, a wonderful big, deep tub (and shower), and I didn't meet any surly workers which at least one reviewer experienced. The Continental breakfast was probably average, no great shakes, but enough to keep one going until lunchtime. The location was excellent--just a short walk to the tube. Yes, I'd go back there again.

I have been to London 6 times, and 5 out of the 6 times I have stayed in this hotel. I agree it's not the nicest, but for poor college students it's better than a hostile. I didn't seem to have any problem with the staff, they can be rude, but alot of english people elsewhere where rude. The breakfast isn't good, but they have a market just around the corner that is cheap and has alot of good stuff to buy to snack on throughout the day. This hotel in in walking distance to convent garden, picaddily circus, and the british museum, and if you don't want to walk you can take the subway, which is only like a block from the hotel. I would definately recommend this hotel and I will definately stay there again on my next trip.
