A enjoyable stay
My husband and I spent 2 enjoyable days in Edinburgh in late September 2008. We had just flown in from Sydney and we were very travel weary. The reception staff, the lounge and our room met with our full approval as the facilities were very elegant and well presented. The pool was delightful especially after a long flight. Breakfast was excellent as were the welcoming staff. Being close to Princes Street was a real bonus as we close to all the major sights. The only problem we had was the musty smell in the hallway leading to our room which was in the basement of the hotel, however it did not affect inside our room at all. Overall a great hotel and I would stay there again. |

Very much delighted
Well, first and the most the location is superb. It is very close to Edinburgh castle, just a few minute walk to the Princes Street in a Georgian Crescent, overlooking a large expance of Green.
The room was nicely decorated, breakfast could not be better, the area by the pool was so beautiful. Overall, amenities and services of the hotel were more than 4 star hotel has to offer. Very much delighted. |

Suited our requirements
The hotel was very nicely furnished and the front desk staff were lovely as well as polite and efficient. The location is superb and within a couple of minutes walking distance to bars and restaurants, whilst remaining quiet enough for a good nights sleep. Overall this hotel suited our requirements. |

Enjoyable stay
My daughter and I had a very enjoyable 2 day stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly the Reception Staff who assisted with directions, information, questions etc. Buffet breakfast was very good and evening meal was excellent. Room and facilities at the hotel were very good. Would definitely go back there. |

The restaurant and its new chef is great
I just got back. The dinner was at least a 5 star. The pool-health club are shut for four months--a redo. The old rooms are very old--I could not stand them but the good staff moved me to a redone 3rd floor room. Quite nice. The owners do want to make it a top tier 4 star hotel. I would stay here again... Great value. |

A well apportioned hotel - made up of several town houses joined together. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms are spacious with high ceiling and traditional decor. Mood lighting was somewhat of a problem. Breakfast, traditional scottish, was very good but not outstanding. I would go back again. A great accommodation, handy to city center and the train station. |

This hotel should be rated much higher. I have to agree that it needs some TLC, but they are working on getting it all done. I can't say enough about the staff. Our travel agent hadn't informed them we were coming, it's Friday night, the eve of the big Rugby match. They had only one room left and gave it to us only off the voucher from the travel company. It was not a very nice room by any means, but they more than made up for it the next day by putting us in one of the suites.
Oh, it was excellent, the views of the gardens, the ambiance! The pool and sauna was nice too. The exercise machines looked out to the gardens. The breakfast room was in the basement, but how long are you going to hang out at breakfast...it was great tasting and plentiful. I have to agree with the other reviewer about the lardy tank, I thought the location was just fine. A slight walk up a hill and you were there...it was just a 5 minute walk to Waverly Station and Prince Street just a slight bit further. We walked all the way to the top of Nelson Monument (right behind the hotel) then to Edinburgh Castle. I just feel that the way to experience some place is to walk through it as the locals do, but that is just me! I would recommend this hotel to all but lardy tanks :-) |

I stayed in the Royal Terrace in Jan '04 and although some refurbishment was underway,it did not effect my stay whatsoever.A very beautiful hotel full of warm, scottish tradition with gorgeous rooms, brilliant views, lovely staff and indoor leisure suite! |
