Location, Climate

Saint-Malo is a walled port city in northwestern France on the English Channel. It is a sub-prefecture of the Ille-et-Vilaine. The climate of St Malo is similar to other regions on the English Channel such as Le Havre and Cornwall. St Malo has a maritime temperate climate with mild summers and some rainfall in all months. Brief History

Saint-Malo during the Middle Ages was a fortified island at the Rance River. Its name is derived from a man whoi s a follower of Brendan, Saint Malo or Maclou. From 1490–1493, Saint-Malo declared itself to be an independent republic, taking the motto "not French, not Breton, but Malouins". In 1758 the Raid on Saint Malo saw a British expedition land intending to capture the town. However; the British did not do so, and instead occupied the nearby town of St Servan. Saint Malo was the site of an Anglo-French summit in 1998 which led to a significant agreement regarding European defence policy.

World's first tidal power station attracts 200,000 visitors per year as reported. A canal lock in the west end of the dam lets the passage of 16,000 vessels between the English Channel and the Rance. Transportation

The city has a good bus system taking you many places such as train station and outside of the walls. But you should keep in mind that there are no bus services late in the evening. The city is surrounded by walls and you can walk around it easily. There are also tourist trains that can take you for a ride.
