Location, Climate
San Francisco is one of the most populated cities in California, United States. It is situated along the Pacific Coast and San Francisco Peninsula and consists of several islands including Treasure Island and Alcatraz. San Francisco has four seasons having warm summers with cool sea breeze, temperate winters and transitional spring and fall. The wettest months are from November to March.
Brief History
The Spanish conquered San Francisco in 1776 and built a fort along the Golden Gate and the Mission San Francisco de Asis which was built for Saint Francis of Assisi. The city started to progress and got more populated during the California Gold Rush in 1849 making it the largest city in the Pacific Coast.
Events, Landmarks, Activities
San Francisco hosts different kinds of festivals and events each year, but the most popular are the Auto Show which is held in November and features some of the latest models in automobiles and the SF Carnival which is held in March and showcases multi-cultural dance and music. The most famous landmark in San Francisco is the Golden Gate Bridge and overlooking that gate is the beautiful park called Presidio which houses the Palace of Fine Arts. A trip to San Francisco won't be complete without riding the cable car which spans from the Fisherman's Wharf to the Market Street.
Transportation
There are more to see in San Francisco and most can be explored by foot. For farther destinations, it is best to take the Muni Metro, streetcar or trolley buses. If you are fit, then biking is a good option.
