Tiny rooms but nice service
We have stayed at San Giorgio Hotel on our short break. The staff was quite friendly and in fact went considerably out of their way to help us find the hotel. They actually came out and found us when we were lost and helped carry our bags to the hotel. The hotel was perfectly located, but rather hard to find at the first time. The hotel is tucked out of the way but is only a few minutes walk from St. marks Square, the Grand Canal or Rialto Bridge. It is a tad confusing so you need to have a map or other tool to find your way. The hotel is quaint and very traditional. The room we had was very small even by European standards. It was clean and pretty with Venetian decor and even Venetian wall coverings. All in all. San Giorgio Hotel was reasonably cheap considering Venice prices.. The small room was balanced out by very helpful staff quite convenient location.

This was a very pleasant experience. The young man who runs the hotel is warm, friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed his restaurant recommendations. The small hotel is at the end of a cobblestone street. Our room was decorated in a traditonal venetian style with a double window opening to a view of the little street. The breakfast was good and included meats and cheese. We would definately stay there again. Try it, you'll like it!

Just returned from a 2-night stay at the San Giorgio Hotel in Venice. There was an error in my booking -- whether due to the on-line reservation service or the hotel itself, we do not know. San Giorgio had me down for two nights and not the three nights that I had booked. Since they were completely full that first night, the owner/manager, Valerio, called around to find other accommodations for me. Not only did he switch me to the Hotel Gallini for one night, but he personally carried my suitcases over there himself. In the morning, while I was out, he went to Hotel Gallini and carried my suitcases back to the San Giorgio. When my ATM/Visa check card wasn't working the evening before checkout, he told me not to worry about payment and that we'd figure something out -- he just wanted me to enjoy my stay in Venice, stress-free. He is a wonderful man who pays particular attention to his guests and their stay. In addition, I loved my room. The gold-leaf headboard was covered in a pale blue brocade fabric which matched the bedspread, tablecloth, and chair. The bathroom sported real terrycloth towels, too! I highly recommend this hotel.

We spent three nights at Hotel San Giorgio and were completetly satisfied with everything. The room was decorated with a beautiful chandellier and wall sconces. There were three of us in our room. The room was roomy although not spacious, but larger than most rooms we have found in Venice. The hotel is a budget priced hotel in a quiet, yet cenral, location. Valerio, the owner, really cares about his hotel and is in the constant process of upgrading with new wall coverings and beds...although these improvements enhance the rooms they are not necessary improvments. It indicated how much pride he feels in his small hotel. Valerio, was always so helpful offering suggestions and answering our many questions. The breakfast is included and ample. It is served in a pretty room on the first floor. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone!

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel in the end of May 2004, we had booked the room 2 months in advanced using recommendations from this site. 1 week before the trip we asked to add another night and Valerio (the Manager) said they were booked but he would find us something. We arrived to the San Giorgio and Valerio walked us down and carried our bags to the other hotel (Gamili) which he convinced the manager to give us a deal. The next morning Valerio was there to pick us up and take us back to the San Giorgio. The hotel is located only minutes away from St. Marc's Square, right by the shopping area. The hotel rooms are decorated with beautiful rugs and tapestries hanging over the beds from the matching fabric padded walls. The closet has enough space for two people and fit 2 suitcases in the bottom. The bathroom is small but adequate for two people. It has a sink, toilet, a small shower with a built in bidet and shower doors. They even have a clothes liner to hang your laundry. The included breakfast was the best we had the whole trip. The usual pastries and toast/croissants, coffee/tea and juice are served, along with fresh fruit, cereal, cream cheeses, yoghurt, etc., but Valerio and his staff also cook the most wonderful Crepes and Omelettes at no extra charge. They even lend you umbrellas with the hotel's logo in case you are in need of one like we did. Also, they just installed an internet connection, so you can just hook up your lap top without a problem. The only downsides about the place are that there's no elevator (but the rooms are on the 2nd floor & 3rd floor so is not a big climb, and Valerio will probably carry your bags up anyway), the hallways are a bit bland compared to the rooms and the self contained shower/bidet units are very small even for an average size person, but we still managed. This 2 star hotel is quite a delight thanks to the 5 star service of the manager Valerio. We will definitely stay here again
