Stayed at Sofitel, Athens Airport, August 2002 for a few hours (flight left 5AM). One of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in! Seriously, this is an airport hotel and not convenient to Athens city proper, but really nice as far as materials used, amenities, etc. As nice as most Four Seasons, Fairmonts, etc. Why at an airport we don't understand. Need this in Athens the city. Really comfy beds and GREAT bathrooms! This was one year ago and the Greeks are not known for upkeep, but I imagine it would be hard to run this property down so soon. Have a great nights sleep here!@

My husband and I stayed at the Sofitel one night before catching our flight to Kefallonia, one of the Greek Islands. The hotel is fabulous. The staff was wonderful. We had the most comfortable bed and the bathroom was luxurious.

One of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at. The staff was incredible. The breakfast was great. Very expensive, but well worth it in my book.

We stayed at the Sofitel because of a late flight getting in from Santorini, and an early flight leaving the next day for the US. You can't beat the convenience of this location to the airport, although it is the only thing is it close to. It is definitely high-priced, but we made the choice to pay more for a few extra hours of sleep (and you also save the 25 E taxi fare each way to/from Athens, which makes it a little more palatable). The room was great - VERY comfortable beds, and a luxurious bathroom. Restaurant prices were too high, so we walked across to the airport and ate there. Breakfast was minimal, although it was available at 4 am (we were told that the full breakfast was available after 6 am, but since our flight left at 5:55 am, we weren't able to avail ourselves of it).

Stayed at the Sofitel for one night (if you can call it a night when you get up at 3:30 AM!) because of an early flight--that's really the only reason you'd stay at this hotel because once you're there, you're there unless you want to pay another E25 cab fare and ride for 30 minutes back to Athens. There's nothing else out there except for the airport. Because it's right across from the departure terminal, we checked into our flight 2 hrs in advance and checked our bags, went back to the hotel for the included breakfast (continental buffet starts at 4 AM, regular breakfast at 6 AM), back to our room to freshen up, checked out, and went on to the airport for the short wait for our flight (allow time for security). Price is very high--in the E300 range unless it's on a weekend--we paid E184 then. But it's not worth that much, I don't think, except for the convenience. They can charge that much, though, because they're the only show in town. And from what our cabdriver told us, they'll continue to be the only game in town at the airport because that's part of the deal they made. Can't imagine the room rate during the Olympics! Very modern (it should be--it's brand new). Bathroom is out of this world--soaker tub, steam shower, every acoutrement. Terry robes and slippers, hair dryer, safe. Restaurant and bar are very expensive compared to the rest of Greece. We went across to the airport to eat and got some very good food at half the price. The hotel restaurant was practically empty. It could do itself a favor by adding a restaurant with reasonable prices--maybe a sports bar--to keep their clientele there for meals. I'd stay there again for the convenience but only for one night and only at weekend rates. Otherwise, it would pay to just get up early in the Plaka and get to the airport.
