Fine hotel! I was worried about this hotel after I read some reviews, but we stayed for 4 nights (2 weeks ago) and it was great. You can't beat the location! The hotel staff was friendly and it was nice to be able to swim after walking all day. The restaurant was closed so I don't know about the food - but it is only two blocks from rue St.Honore where you will find excellant cafes. I asked for a "non-smoking" room and our Junior Suite (for 4 people) faced the inner courtyard and was recently redone. It was roomy, quiet, and clean with big windows. I will stay here again the next time we make it to Paris . . . :-)

My family and I just stayed in a junior suite at the St. James and Albany and loved it. The location is perfect-- we walked almost everywhere except on our visit to Montmarte. Right across from the Louvre and d'Orsay, it was simply the ideal location. The room was beautiful, immaculate, and the staff was just terrific. From the front desk to the crew who turned down the beds and left chocolates on the pillow, they were all just great. I would stay there again in a minute.

My youngest daughter and I were there Nov. 27 through Dec. 2nd and concur with review from Rowlett, Texas. I would say 3 star Facility, 4+star location across the street from Metro (subway) entrance, 300+yards from Louvre, Very, very close to River. Walking distance to many attractions. Paris is enjoyable if you walk it, better be in reasonable shape. For the price we were pleased. Very close to Hotel Meurice, go there and Look at a 5 Star Hotel. For a memorable ocassion (romantic?) try the Bateaux Parisien Dinner Cruise. Also be sure to get a guided tour through Versaille that includes the Opera, this is stunning!! Rick Steve's (purchase 1 or more of his books, worth it) recommended walk through the "Rue Cler area" is just as he described! I may decide to stay at Hotel Levique(sp.) next time, probably just a 2 star but once you've been in the area you'll understand, good restuarants plus more at reasonable costs!

Stayed here Nov. 22-Nov. 27, 2003. Based on some of the earlier reviews, I was extremely concerned we would face dirty, deplorable conditions. I even went so far as to send an email to Choice Hotels about a month before our trip asking for assurances that the facilities would be as represented. My concerns grew when I didn't receive any response to my email. (A Choice Hotels rep did call back in response to a second email, but unfortunately her message was left on my home answering machine after we were in France). Perhaps my pre-conceived concerns has led me to over-rate this hotel because, while it is certainly not on par with a luxury hotel, my worst fears weren't realized. Our experience included the following. The lobby, though small, was nice enough. The front desk staff and bellmen were extremely helpful, cheerful and friendly. We were personally escorted to our room by a nice desk staff member. Any question I had throughout the stay was promptly and personally attended to by the person who I had asked for assistance. (Note: It took a few minutes to check-in because my reservation was under my middle name instead of my last name. The desk clerk says this happens occasionally, so keep this in mind if your reservation is "missing"). Our rooms (we had the jr. suite) were typical European small, but neat and clean. The bathroom arrangement was strange, but adequate. A tiny shower room off the "sitting room" and a shower/tub in the bedroom bath, with a third tiny room for the only toilet, which was accessible only from the sitting room. Our daughters slept on the bedding in the sitting room, which was a couch that converts to a twin bed, with another twin bed trundle unit underneath that pulls out and pops up. We were on the Rue de Julliet side of the hotel on the 7th floor. The view consists of the building across the street, which was undergoing repair work, and the street below, a fairly typical, narrow Paris side-street. By the time of our return every day, our room had been cleaned and the beds made and turned down the same as you would expect from any other hotel. The rooms had tvs with internet capabilities and wireless keyboards with each set and a typical mini-bar. (A friend of ours on the same visit did have a "superior room" that was dated in appearance and rather odd with large v-shaped wood beams in the middle of the room. I would not have wanted this room, it was quite dreary). The hotel has a nice bar area, a very small business area with two computers and printer, a workout area that had plenty of equipment, a spa where you can arrange for massages and a small indoor pool. Beware the elevators, they are tiny and slow. The room was adequate, clean and the maid service was without fault. When I was checking out, a supervisor was going through the lobby with an employee making sure that everything was clean and correct in appearance, going so far as to run a white cloth along the lobby woodwork and trim to check for dust. Overall, I can say the hotel staff was very nice and appeared to want nothing more than for my visit to be an enjoyable one. Location is great as others have noted. If you're like me, you got this place at pretty much a bargain price through gtahotels. So don't expect a luxury hotel and you probably won't be disappointed.

We stayed in a junior suite, April 20-24 on a family package and were very happy. We booked it directly with the hotel and the price was better than what I received from most of the internet sites as it included R/T transfers from CDG in a private minivan, 1 day city museum passes, one drink at the bar, all taxes and the full breakfast for the 4 of us. We stayed on the 2nd floor in a room overlooking the interior courtyard which was pleasant and quiet. The room had a large sitting area with at couch that was a single bed with and trundle, a separate good sized bedroom with a king bed (two twins but comfortable) and a large clean bathroom. The carpet was worn and the floors creaked but the room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff (desk, housekeeping, bell service, breakfast, pool and fitness area) could not have been more helpful and the location cannot be beat-across from the Louvre, Metro stop in front, walking distance to the seine, gardens, museums, tours, shopping. I would stay again in a heartbeat.

Just returned from a 6 day family vacation at this hotel (April 14-20) and would definitely come here again in the future. As noted in other postings, the location cannot be beat, particularly in light of the cost. Our stay was booked through a travel agent, and our price included the daily breakfast buffet, as well as a transfer to the airport at the end of our trip; less expensive than a 3 star hotel that we had previously stayed at in London. Staff was very nice, friendly and professional; room service was very quick, maid service was fine (only somewhat tardy on one day). Room (402) looked out onto the interior courtyard, and was spacious enough for 2 adults and 2 children. Bed made properly each day, with turn-down service at approximately 6:00 p.m. Pretty much used it as a base to explore Paris and Versaille. Carpet not new, but clean, with some old stain marks.
Creaky floors in room, but that didn't bother me (can't speak for the person in the room below us). Great pool, which my kids liked to swim in for an added treat. We loved it!!

Stayed in July 2002. Excellent value in Paris. Very quiet, spacious & comfortable rooms. Spacious bathroom with shower and large tub (the WC was really small, but hey, what all do you need to do in there anyway?) The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location can't be beat-we walked to the Louvre, Notre Dame, Place de la Concorde, just to name a few spots. I would absolutely stay there again.

We stayed at the St. James & Albany, on rue Rivoli in the 1st arr. for five nights in early December, 2002, as part of an airline package. We were guaranteed a superior room (one up from standard) and were pleasantly surprised. On another trip we'd stayed in 2 and 3 star hotels, and while comfy, the rooms were expectedly small. This was a splurge for our 10th anniversay. The hotel has 4stars and is in a great location. Our room overlooked the Tuileries Gardens and had a partial view of the Musee D'Orsay accross the Seine. You can walk everywhere and strolling accross the Seine to the 5th & 6th arrs. is lovely.
It was actually two rooms. We entered a small hallway with a half bath and big closet (w/white terry bathrobe) and full length mirror. Then onto a smallish living area with a sofa, desk, tv, telephone & minibar. Then onto a medium sized room with a king bed (two twins w/king bedding), two more closets, another tv and another phone. Then onto a HUGE bathroom with a large new tub, separate glass shower, long sink space for two. All newly tiled and fresh. Really nice lighting, towels and toiletries. Everything was very clean. The only disappointment was the carpet was a tad dingy w/a few stains (clean, but stained). We could hardly complain.
The room included a breakfast buffet and we were not disappointed but we are not big breakfast eaters. They had great coffee (au lait for me) and the staff walked around with refills. Yummy, fresh croissants, pain, and pain au chocolat. There were cereals, hard boiled eggs, three kinds of juice and a few things I couldn't figure out. The hotel, at least while we were there, had a lot of young Japanese on tours and perhaps the hotel tries to accomodate many different nationalities. There was also bacon & sausage and perhaps some eggs. We stuck to the croissants, juice (really good grapefruit juice) and coffee.
The public areas were very nice -- painted murals, leather seating, marble or tile floors. In summer there's a beautiful courtyard (it was winter) in which to dine or have a drink. The bar was comfy but overpriced compared to other places. The staff was nice but not gushing. They made resevations for us and gave directions promptly.
Overall, I really liked this hotel and the price was great. It's not like the Ritz or Scribe, but then again you're not paying that price. They do have certain amenities one would expect like a doorman and such. The rooms were quiet at night and we loved relaxing in the living area after shopping. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

This hotel was very conveniently located across the street from the Louvre. Also right next to the Metro, and close to stores and restaurants. We were pleasantly surprised by our accomodations. We had a very large room with 1 full bath, and another half bath (toilet and sink). All in all, thought the room was a very good value for its price, quality, and above all, location.

We just returned from a 9 day stay (July 15-23) at the Hotel St. James et Albany, and we have definitely found the perfect Parisian hotel. First of all, it is in an unbeatable location on Rue du Rivoli--across the street from the Metro and the Tuileries, down the street from the Louvre and Palais Royale, across the Seine from the D'Orsay and the 5th and 6th, around the corner from Rue St. Honore and other shopping streets --we could go on and on about the location. Our beautifully appointed room was on the back courtyard and was extremely quiet, spacious, and clean. Besides the queen bed, which was really 2 twins made up as a queen, there was a large sitting area with couch, writing table and breakfast table, TV with internet capabilities, and phone. The large bathroom had a tub, vanity, and glass shower and all the usual complimentary toiletries. A fluffy terry robe was also available to us. The staff was very responsive/professional and addressed all our questions in a friendly manner. Our package did not include breakfast, but we did elect to purchase it twice. It is a buffet with various breads, eggs, meats, cheeses, fresh fruit salad, juices, coffee and tea. Everything tasted fresh. The hotel was undergoing renovations which will add a pool and fitness center. This will make the hotel even more perfect. We have stayed in Paris on three other occasions, and this was the nicest. If you want a classically managed hotel with a bit of history (Lafayette was married here and Marie Antoinette visited him here on his return to Paris from the American Revolution), the Hotel St. James et Albany might be your ideal residence in Paris.
