Brief History
The city was discovered by Russian Emperor Peter the Great in 1703 and became Russia's imperial capital between 1732 to 1918. Its name was changed from St Petersburg to Petrograd in 1914, and then was called Leningrad in 1924 before finally being named St Petersburg again in 1991.
