A private investor of the 1920s saw the great potential of the area when he bought a piece of land here and nicknamed it “The Venice of America”. His dream was to make Sunny Isles a tourist resort, one of the finest. Five years later the Haulover bridge was ready and this attracted a lot of investors in the area. In 1936 Sunny Isles was bought by a Milwaukee malt magnate; the region developed slowly until the 1950s, when hotels sprang all over the resort.
