Sveta Sofia Hotel
Excellent location although probably at the less expensive end of the city centre. Very central and within walking distance of the main shopping areas. Pleasantly surprised with dinner on the first night, it was very good, tasty and satisfying. Staff very nice and helpful, although the smoking (which is everywhere) in the foyer is offputting. Overall adequate low budget accommodation. |

Central & friendly
"A recently refurbished hotel in a historical building located in a pedestrian zone. Close to sight, shops, business and admin HQ, restaurants, traffic connections (tram, metro). Shuttle booked with the hotel worked in time, friendly reception, nice room decoration, new bathroom, but not everything worked at once. They tried to prepare a warm buffet breakfast, but were not able to keep ham & eggs warm, obviously because they did not know how to use the available tools. Hotel is a budget alternative to large hotel group accomodation." |

Be there at 7 am. ......
We booked a package at this hotel incl. airport transfers and everything worked fine. We got our room after early arrival at 11.15 am already - a 4th floor standard room, very clean very quiet, bright colors, new furniture. Good value for what you pay. If you need a bathtub you should rather opt for a "luxury room", however (+20 € per day). The place is *** rather than the **** advertised on their website.
Most of Sofia's hotels have their individual drawbacks. Some are new but in the outskirts, some are large but old, some are in streets that have seen better times ...
Reasons for our choice were location and recent refurbishment of this object. It is close to all sights you want to see in Sofia city and also right in the center of Bulgaria's business and administrative life. Walk down the pedestrian zone of Pirotska street (5 min) and you stand before the presidency, TSUM shopping center, St. George church and the entry to the fashion and lively restaurant zone of Vitosha boulevard.
Staff is friendly, but somewhat untrained. Breakfast comes with some peculiarities. We saw 3 different toasters within 4 days (some of them broke down before our eyes). And while they keep some hot dog style sausages warm, they deny this favour to the egg dishes. So be there at 7 am. if you want your ham and eggs warm. Try the fresh cherries and strawberries they offer every day.
Returning to Sofia after some 20 years we saw a lot of impressive advancement in this country, enjoyed good food and local beer as well as plenty of shopping opportunities, all at attractive prices.

It's the location that counts
It is large enough, it is refurbished and I like the location in the pedestrian street - some 3 min. from Serdika station, presidency, Vitosha boulevard, TSUM stores and some of the most important historical sights.
Ask for a luxury room if you want bathtub or whirlpool, the standrad rooms come with shower. The room is bright and clean, decorated in yellow and blue.
Breakfast could be better, but there are plenty of alternatives around. Delivery of jam arrived only at our 4th day of staying there. Egg dishes were cold, coffee quality reminded of the 8o's
But: good value for money. |
