We stayed at this hotel in November and quite liked the place. It was in a good location close to the Royal Mile. Our room was clean and nicely decorated with up-to-date furnishings. The beds were very comfortable.
It did get a bit noisy at night, but this is a problem you encounter in almost any city centre. My tip to those people complaining about the noise is "Don't stay above a pub in a capital city! Go to the Isle of Mull or somewhere like that if you want peace and quiet" Having said that I did get very cross at the half naked man who locked himself out of his room at 3am then spent ages trying to wake his partner to let him in again, but only succeeded in waking the rest of the guests. Anyway that's not the hotel's fault.
The breakfasts were substantial full-Scottish-help-yourself-to-as-much-as-you-like jobs. Very good too.
The staff were helpful and friendly. If only the weather had been as pleasant, but yes, I know your tip is "If you want nice weather in November go to the Canary Islands". Well yes, but Edinburgh is a great place to visit despite the rain and we enjoyed our stay.

I have to disagree with the "Do Not Bother" Review of the Tailor's Hall hotel. I went to the hotel escorting a group of American students and had some concerns because of the review. Certainly the hotel is built around a very busy pub, and if you are above the pub you probably would have noise problems. However, I was on one of the wings and I found it quiet. The room was clean and modern and my bathroom was immaculate, with a bath and a good shower. I found the staff helpful and in terms of location the hotel is hard to beat- two minutes from the centre of the Royal Mile. A full Scottish breakfast is provided. I would reccommend this hotel, particularly to the younger traveller.
