Location, Climate
Tenerife is the most populated and largest island in the Canary Islands. This popular holiday destination boasts pristine beaches, forests, mountains and even some spectacular volcanic landscapes. The location of Tenerife is within the air currents of the Sahara Desert, which give it warm climate all year-round. May to September are the driest months on the island and this is when most holiday makers chose to take their holidays. Book your cheap Tenerife hotel early to avoid disappointment in the high season.
Brief History
The first human settlement in Tenerife was the Guanches who stayed on the island until around 200 B.C. There were stories that Tenerife and other islands in the Canary Islands were part of Atlantis. This legendary island sank beneath the ocean, but its mountain peaks still remained above sea level and have yet to be located.
Events, Landmarks, Activities
Many visitors go to Tenerife every February to attend the annual Carnival, which is one of the largest carnivals in the world. During the Carnival you can appreciate the natural beauty of the Island by visiting Mount Teide, the Botanical Gardens and Mariposario del Drago. There are also lots of wildlife parks on the island that are worth-visiting including the Jungle Park, Monkey Park and Camel Park. Get wet and wild at Tenerife's water parks such as the Aqualand and Siam Park. If you love to drive and race, then check out the Tenerife Karting Club and Quad Park.
Transportation
Buy a travel card to save up on the cost of bus fares since that is the main public transportation in Tenerife. Renting a car is also a good idea because it can reach even the most remote area in the island.
