Stayed for 1 night in May, Hotel Staff were friendly, breakfast was excellent but rooms a little run down. However location is a little far from the tube and I'm used to plenty of walking! Although Kensington Gardens across the road make a nice retreat. Would stay here again

Our stay at the Thistle Kensington Hotel was very pleasant and comfortable. Although it is an older hotel the room was spacious, clean and close to Kensington Palace. A 15 minute walk took you to Harrad's and all the surrounding shops. The walk was through the park and this provided us with a chance to be away from traffic noise and the hustle and bustle of the city. The breakfasts were ok, but nothing to write home about, unlike those we had in France. Staff were courteous and helpful and responded to any requests in a friendly, prompt manner. We would certainly stay at this hotel again.
I thought the hotel room was good. The bathroom was very clean which is always one concern in booking a hotel. The room in itself was tastefully decorated and kept very clean. However, I would suggest that the hotel consider purchasing some new mattresses. The one we slept in was probably about 3 inches thick and not very comfortable. Other than that, the service was good and the staff were friendly and you couldn't ask for a better location.

We stayed here for four nights in May. After eight hours on a plane and a couple of hours getting to the hotel, we were exausted. Even though the lobby was filled with people waiting to check in (2 hours early), the staff gave us their only ready room. The location was good with an easy walk to Kensington High Street tube station. Our room was clean and comfortable. Service was good. The only complaint I had was a bartender who didn't know what a martini was. We enjoyed our stay.

I stayed for one night at the Thistle Kensington Palace in May, 2003; it was a freebie hotel stay offered by British Air. It is in a good location, across the street from Kensington Palace and the gardens, ~10 min walk from the Gloucester Rd tube station, a slightly shorter walk from High Street Kensington station. Staff was courteous, and I was able to check-in early. My single room was quiet, being located somewhere in the innards. The room was adequately sized for a single, with a large, clean bathroom. The room was clean, but the biggest offender was the bed -- it sagged, had no mattress pad, and I could feel the springs. The bedspread had also seen better days. The breakfast buffet was included as part of the stay, otherwise it would have been ~11 GBP(!) for a continental breakfast, 3 GBP more for a full English breakfast. I suspect if I actually had had to pay I would not be quite so sanguine in my review. Overall, for a 4 star hotel, it felt more like a Motel 6 (albeit with a much more courteous staff).

I have stayed at 2-star hotels that were better than the Thistle Kensington Palace. My room was shoddy to say the least....old-world charm and shabby are not the same thing. In addition, the staff was charming but very uninformed about the daily routines of their hotel or even the location of the closest tube station....it's not the South Kensington (1st advice) or Gloucester Road (2nd advice) station, but the High Street Kensington station which they claimed was the furthest away. I have travelled extensively over the last 33 years and have been to London numerous times. Fortunately for me, this was a stopover enroute to Marseille and I was only there for 2 nights this time around. I will be going back to London again and again, but not to the Thistle Kensington Palace.

A few weeks before arriving, I was notified by British Air that this hotel was no longer rated 3*, and my reservation would be moved to a different hotel. After reading the reviews here I was worried because not only had I booked my free nights stay here through them, but several more days here through gtahotels.com. I called the hotel and was told my rate did not provide me with a refurbished room. So I was VERY pleasantly surprised to find my room not only clean and comfortable, but quiet, roomy, and modern. I would stay here again. The restaurant has good reasonably priced food too.

We stayed here last weekend. Despite the rain we had a great time catching a show and sampling the restauraunts of London. We had a great room (No 737) overlooking the Park. Beds are certainly on the firm side but were comfortable enough. Continental Breakfast was included and there was no reason to leave hungry. Also breakfast is served until 11.00am on the weekend - ideal after a late night in Soho! We never had much contact with the staff other than checking in which was no problem. Breakfast staff were friendly and attentive enough too. We were a bit apprehensive given some of the room reviews but landed on our feet. I guess you take a chance anywhere you go.

The staff at the hotel couldn't have been nicer. The room was newly renovated and just lovely with a view of Kennsington Palace. Traveling alone with my 7 year old daughter for the first time was a bit daunting, however I would do it again in a minute after this wonderful expirence.

Stayed at the Thistle 3 weeks ago, for a 5 night stay. The "Executive Room" they gave me was very spacious (for London). The bathroom even had a bath! There is also an in room safe. My frosted window looked out to an atrium of 100 other frosted windows so no views to speak of (however this meant it was very peaceful and quiet). The buffet breakfast was very comprehensive and staff were very helpful. The only draw back is that it was a bit far to the underground (7 mins to Circle Line and 12 mins to Picadilly...the latter being better as it goes to Heathrow as well as Leicester Square). All in all a good experience.
