Within short walk of 3 metro stations and many attractions! Hotel has charm unlike large convention hotels and faces a relatively quiet side street, compared to those on Gran Via . We stayed for 4 nights Feb.03 on 2nd floor overlooking street and returned for 3 nights Mar.03 with room facing courtyard which was quieter. Both offered nice hardwood floors, original, heavy wooden shutters to block out ALL light for siestas, new marble bath with nice amenities incl.hair dryer, large closets, pants press, sitting area & more. Buffet breakfast really is exquisite in variety of items & quality. Restaurant & sitting areas are just lovely with fresh flowers & new fabrics. The hotel staff very friendly. We saw many hotels during our stay there but agreed that the Tryp is the best choice for atmosphere & location.

We really enjoyed out stay in this hotel- it has an excellent location near many good sites and lots of good tabernas. The room was very comfrotable and really exceeded my expectations. It was also very quiet which was my main concern for Madrid. We stayed in Sol Melia hotels throughout our time in Spain (of which this is part of) and were very happy with our experiences in them.

A very mixed experience. I greatly appreciated my first stay at the Tryp Ambassador in 2002. The staff at that time was attentive, the room was spacious and airy, the breakfast buffet was exceptional. It was such a comfortable experience that when I returned to Madrid in 2003 I again chose to stay at the Tryp Ambassador. This time the hotel lost my reservation and the manager was extremely rude in her reception of me. She was condescending, rude, and argued that I couldn't possibly have a reservation when in fact I had twice confirmed it weeks before. Only after I produced my copy of the reservation confirmation was I grudgingly provided with a small, dark room. I was entirely appalled at this reception and at the grossly inappropriate lack of courtesy. I visit Madrid often but would never stay at this hotel again.

Great location. The hotel's website had the best rates! Walking distance to Palacio Real, attractions, and several plazas. Spacious rooms! Very comfortable.

Stayed in October 2003. Excellent location within walking distance to many attractions, restaurants, and shopping. Our room was very quiet as it faced an interior courtyard though the room was a little stuffy and warm. Check the Sol Melia web site for good weekend rates.

We stayed at this hotel (booked through the hotel's website) and were very pleased. The breakfast that was included in our rate was great- big enough so we didn't need lunch. Our room (#321) was clean and very big. The location couldn't be better- a short walk from the Opera, the Palacio Real and the Plaza Oriente. There are two great restaurants each a block away. The hotel clerk was very helpful when my purse was stolen in at the Plaza Oriente. She called the police for me since I don't speak Spanish well. We really enjoyed our stay there.

Stayed here for 5 nights in Oct 2003.
An excellent hotel with all you can really ask for - large and spacious rooms (well furnished with wooden floors), friendly and helpful staff, an fantastic location that is literally a few steps from the Opera and the Palace, and a buffet breakfast where the food was laid out on a series of tables along the length of the entire dining hall (having stayed in about 2 dozen European hotels over the last couple of years, the quantity and variety of the food was the best I have come across, and the quality was only exceeded by Paris).
I have only two small criticisms - it would have been nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but more annoying were the doors to each of the rooms. The only way to get them to close properly was to slam them shut as hard as you could (a la the UK commuter trains), and this was disturbing in the morning and late at night, but we became accustomed to it after a couple of days.
It was expensive, but no more so that other hotels of its class in Madrid

We've just returned from Madrid and all I can say, is that the Tryp Ambassador is a great place to stay! The hotel offers a great ambiance, located very close to all major attractions; just walk down the street and you'll see the Royal Palace in front of you! The rooms are just beautiful, offering a warm, nice atmosphere.
The only thing was, that during our three night stay our neighbours found it necessary to wake us at 2 a.m. screaming, slamming doors and behave like wild animals. But this had nothing to do with the hotel. We complained the next morning, and the very helpful and friendly staff changed our room and even gave us an upgrade! (for inconvience caused).
I would really recommend this hotel to anyone, who wants to stay in Madrid!

Read your reviews before leaving ,with people complaining the hotel was noisy. Found it not to be so. It is on the spot for shopping, night life restaurants, Opera House and Royal palace. Staff very helpful, public areas very impressive and great buffet breakfast.

We booked on line at ... and got a much better deal than all other web pages. At 80.00 a night for a double room I feel we got a real bargain. The room was very spacious with high ceilings and large shuttered windows running the length of the room. The bathroom was clean and functional with a large bath but a little dated. The room had wooden floors which looked lovely but did make the hotel a little noisy. Our room was on the first floor and proved slightly noisier as there was a wedding on downstairs. Facilities were very good and I found the staff very helpful but slightly reserved ( this is typical of madrilenos anyway). The bar and lobby were small but comfortable.Location was excellent with Santo Domingo and Opera metros nearby. Most shops, bars and attractions were within walking distance and the area was quite safe.Don't know if I would pay 4 star prices for this hotel due to the noise levels (internally, no traffic or exterior noise) but I would definitely recommend it if you can book it at promotional rates.
