My husband and I picked this hotel b/c of the reviews here and were quite pleased. The Atocha is a nice, new hotel in a pretty, old building. The Anton Martin metro station is literally steps from the door. The gigantic breakfast buffet is available until 11:00 a.m., later than in many other places. We had a nice, if slightly hard (which we like), king-sized bed, which pretty much filled up the room. The bathroom had very little counter space but was othewise great---superb water pressure! We stayed on the floor designated as non-smoking (the 4th) in room 416, which is far away from the elevator and on the interior of the building, so it was very quiet. In reference to a previous reviewer's comment, the neighborhood may be a little "rough around the edges," but it didn't feel dangerous or threatening. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

We picked the Tryp Atocha based on the reviews here and were very happy with it. Our room was stylish and clean with a great bathroom. Most outstanding feature was the pillow menu which lets you choose your preferred pillow--mine turned out to be the best pillow I've ever had! Good breakfast was included in our rate--we booked through the gtahotels.com website. Location was very convenient for visiting the Prado and other museums and we also found some great restaurants within walking distance. Staff was helpful and there is internet access available in the lobby for a very nominal fee. My only caveat is that the neighborhood at night felt a little sketchy. We had no problems at all but if I were a woman alone, I might feel more comfortable taking a cab late at night rather than walking. Daytime (and it stays light until 10 in May!), however, there was no problem at all.

This place was a breath of fresh air, it was excellent. Though I must say after touring the rest of Europe my expectations were not that high. The front desk were very helpful and exceptionally nice which was a nice change. They gave us tips on where to go and what to see around Madrid. We were also able to check in very early (about 10:30 am) without a fuss. The room and bathroom were both spacious and spotless. The bathrooms were actually very nice looking, almost better than the room and we all know how important that is! All in all, this was a great hotel and I would definitely stay here again. The train station is also right out front for easy traveling.

Great little hotel. The rooms are small by American standards but well appointed (including a refrigerator) and very clean. We stayed 3 nights in March, and got an inside room away from Calle Atocha. It was quiet at night and we could open the window completely to let in a nice cool breeze in the evening. This hotel is in a great location. We walked everywhere (Prado Museum, the Royal Palace, Puerta del Sol, Parque del Retiro to name a few) or jumped on the Metro as the Anton Martin station entrance is literally 50 feet from the front door of the hotel. The bar is nice and clean, the staff is very attentive, and there is an internet access store run out of a video rental shop a block and a half away.

This is an undiscovered gem! It's a brand new hotel with new furnishings, wood floors, and nice marble bathrooms.
Location was good too, close to the museums and the main Atocha train station.
Breakfast was expansive and excellent!
I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Stayed here twice. Hotel is well kept, very clean and comfortable.
Reception staff are excellent. Was unfortunate enough to have my mobile phone stolen and the staff bent over backwards to help me in my distressed state.
Well worth a stay - got an excellent deal from the Sol Melia website - www.solmelia.es. Works out cheaper than most of the other web offers.

The Tryp Atocha is located on Calle Atocha close to the Atocha train station and the Plaza Santa Ana. It is only a 5 minute walk to the Plaza Mayor in one direction and 5 minutes to the Prado in the other direction. The metro station is literally in front of the hotel's front doors, and the metro is very convenient in Madrid. The rooms are clean and well-furnished with a good-sized bathroom. There is even a choice of pillow! The front desk staff are very helpful and friendly. In the neighbourhood, there are several hostels (and therefore, lots of youth). There is some sort of XXX establishment across the street but I never noticed any shady characters. The famous Casa Patas flamenco restaurant is nearby as well. Unlike hotels near the Gran Via, this hotel has very little traffic noise. Overall, an excellent experience at this hotel - highly recommended!
