Brief History
Before the arrival of the white people in Yosemite National Park, the area was inhabited by the Sierra Miwok and Paiute peoples. The first permanent settlers in Yosemite Valley were the Ahwahnechee tribe. During mid-19th century, the white people started to travel in that area due to the California Gold Rush.

Transportation
The best way to get around the park is by riding a car, but the traffic in Yosemite Valley is worst during summer. It is best to ride a free shuttle bus to explore the area. You can also opt to rent a bike and there are excellent bike paths in the park.
